Requirements

  • Graduate students (with good academic standing for graduation)
  • Experience with flood model development and evaluation
  • Strong GIS (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, GDAL) and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, R, and Python
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside a unique group of scientists to protect the value of FM clients’ businesses by developing methods to identify hazards, assess risk, and produce loss prevention solutions
  • Build hydraulic models to simulate how flooding spreads across the landscape during past storm events and extreme scenarios defined by flood frequency analysis
  • Apply methods to estimate the geometry of open channels and stormwater systems to allow more scalable and reliable production urban flood hydraulic models

Preferred Qualifications

  • Comfortable writing shell scripts and using APIs to automate workflows
  • Comfortable in Microsoft Windows and Linux environments
  • Experience in machine learning (would be a plus)
