Requirements

  • Fundamental engineering knowledge and skills in Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics and Hydrology, Soil Mechanics and Foundations, Civil Engineering Materials, Estimating, Surveying, AutoCAD and/or ArcMAP, Construction means and methods
  • Compliance experience with the EPA Coal Combustion Residual (40 CFR Part 257) rules
  • Experience in geotechnical engineering and/or general civil engineering
  • Experience in the design of dams/hydro facilities or solid waste landfills
  • Experience in site layout, drainage, roads, culverts, sediment and retention ponds, flood routing, erosion control, slopes and contouring, and slope stability
  • Experience with stormwater pollution prevention plan permitting and knowledge of relevant regulations
  • Experience in developing engineering scope of work, specifications, and bid documents
  • Experience performing inspections and preparing technical reports
  • Experience working with federal and state regulatory agencies, familiar with rules and laws for dam safety and solid waste landfills
  • Experience overseeing the work of contractors and/or consultants
  • Experience collecting, monitoring, and analyzing geotechnical instrumentation data
  • PE license in at least one state, or on track to obtain a PE license within one-two years after starting work

  • Builds teams and networks that extend through AEP and other organizations
  • Possesses the experience and knowledge to make technical decisions based on calculated risks
  • Demonstrates vision in identifying business opportunities for the organizational unit

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is preferred
  • Acceptable alternatives include a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a PE license in any state of the U.S. or a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program
