Requirements
- Typically Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and minimum 0 -2 years of relevant experience. An advanced degree may account for additional years of experience as required for this position.
- Experience with Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical or Firmware Engineering.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Responsibilities
- Analysis of engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance.
- Work with system test and tactical operation and maintenance procedures to ensure the proper administrative system safety controls are in place.
- Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
- Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds.
- Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses.
- Working with a large system safety program or multiple mid-sized safety programs.
- Monitoring program technical execution.
- Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors).
- Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval.
- Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process.
- Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards.
- Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.
- Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in command and control systems and/or weapon combat systems.
- Experience with DoD System Safety Programs.
- Experience with safety standards (MIL-STD-882, AMCOM 385-17, JSSSEH, AOP-52, AR 385-10, MIL-HDBK-454, MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-1474, MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-1425.
- Experience producing System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), and Hazard Tracking Logs (HTLs), and Hazardous Material Management Plans and Reports.
- Experience conducting System Safety Working Groups (SSWG).
- Ensure system safety processes and requirements are properly planned, executed and documented during the entire life cycle of weapon systems and oversee the execution of programmatic system safety activities.
- Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel.
