Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural analysis, investigation, and design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood-frame structures.
  • Master of Science or Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering.
  • Structural Engineering (16-hour structural exam) license required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in writing and editing of project specifications, technical reports, field reports, project correspondence, and proposals.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with computer analysis software, such as SAP2000, ETABS, RISA, RAM, and SAFE.
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards including IBC, ASCE 7, and material design standards produced by AISC, ACI, TMS, and NDS.
  • Proficiency in drawing preparation using Revit or AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in software used for engineering computations, including Mathcad and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to travel to out-of-state projects on occasion and ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a wide range of structural engineering projects involving steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures. Projects may include conventional or archaic / antiquated structural systems.
  • Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions and lead the development of investigation reports.
  • Prepare contract drawings and specifications for repair designs and the design of new structures.
  • Execute the construction administration phase of projects, including bid assistance, submittal review, site meetings, observations of completed work, etc.
  • Serve as a manager on projects that may include: Condition assessments of existing buildings and other structures, Investigation of structural failures and adverse performance issues, Preparation of technical reports, Development of options analysis for clients to make informed decisions, Design of rehabilitation and restoration measures for existing structures and preparation of construction documents, including adaptive re-use, Structural design and detailing for new building and non-building structures.
  • Manage the work of younger staff and delegate tasks to them as appropriate.
  • Communicate directly with clients within context of assigned work.
  • Pursue and engage in professional activities for continued learning experience and to gain professional recognition.
  • Present technical findings at project meetings, conferences, and publications.
  • Actively contribute to internal technical training and mentoring.
