Requirements

  • Strong Engineering Background – Experience as a security, software, or infrastructure engineer before moving into leadership. Ability to dive deep into technical discussions and guide engineers on security implementation. Hands-on experience with Go, Python, or Ruby is a plus.
  • Technical expertise across security principles, network security, cloud security, identity and access management, encryption.
  • 2+ Years Proven Ability Leading a High-Functioning Technical Team – Experience managing security or engineering functions, driving execution, collaborating across functions and fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Security Engineering Expertise – Hands-on experience building security tooling, automation, authentication frameworks, encryption services, or secure infrastructure.
  • Influence at Scale – Ability to shape security strategy by collaborating with security leadership and influencing broader security programs across the organization.
  • Developer & Customer Focus – Passion for making security seamless for developers, ensuring security enhances rather than hinders innovation. Strong communication and leadership skills to align teams on security priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with industry security standards and regulatory requirements (e.g. SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, etc)
  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and Scale Security Engineering – Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of security and software engineers.
  • Define and Execute Security Engineering Strategy – Set clear objectives and key results for the security engineering team. Build and maintain secure frameworks, libraries, and security services that integrate seamlessly into Chime’s engineering ecosystem.
  • Provide Hands-on Technical Leadership – Guide engineers in designing scalable security solutions, enforcing best practices, and ensuring efficient implementation.
  • Partner with IT, Engineering and Product Teams – Work closely with teams across Chime to embed security in product development while balancing security and business priorities.
  • Drive the Security Engineering Roadmap – Collaborate with Security Leadership to define and track long-term security initiatives, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Foster a Security-First Culture – Promote learning, continuous improvement, and a proactive security mindset across the company.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications (preferred): CISSP, CISM, or other relevant security certifications.
