Requirements
- B.S. in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, aerospace, welding engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of welding or manufacturing industry experience, with an emphasis on welding processes.
- Experience working with AWS D17.1 Aerospace Welding Specification.
- Hands-on experience designing and developing weld tooling.
- Familiarity with parametric design software (SolidWorks, Pro/E, etc.).
- Strong ability to document processes and procedures for quality assurance.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain weld tooling for both development and production environments, focusing on tanks and large structures.
- Optimize welding processes, including robotic and manual welding techniques, to improve quality, cycle time, and overall efficiency.
- Ensure welding processes and procedures meet AWS D17.1 Aerospace Specifications and other relevant industry standards.
- Collaborate with Process Development Engineers to standardize welding processes and prepare them for production scalability.
- Create internal welding procedures, ensuring quality conformance, in preparation for AS9100D Certification.
- Conduct weld-related time studies, PFMEA, and Kaizen events to drive continuous improvement and waste reduction.
- Source external suppliers for weld materials and fixtures, ensuring they meet quality standards.
- Utilize MRP systems to manage work instructions, bills of materials, and procurement of parts related to weld operations.
- Lead Value Stream Mapping efforts to identify areas for process improvement and predict future-state welding operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with tank and structural welding in an aerospace or defense manufacturing environment.
- Manufacturing engineering experience in an ISO9001/AS9100 Certified facility.
- Experience with Material Resource Planning (MRP) software.
- Prior experience implementing lean manufacturing principles and safety compliance.
- Strong background in robotic welding and automated welding systems.
