Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
- 10–12 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering, with at least 5 years in precision optical systems, photonics, or laser-based technologies.
- Strong expertise in optical assembly techniques, laser alignment processes, and cleanroom manufacturing.
- Experience with vacuum processing, optical coatings, bonding techniques, and precision metrology tools.
- Familiarity with special processes such as brazing, welding, and oven curing used in high-precision assemblies.
- Proficiency in DFMA, PFMEA, Six Sigma, and lean manufacturing methodologies.
- Excellent project management, interpersonal, and leadership skills with a strong sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with global stakeholders, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers.
- Strong decision-making skills, high energy, and a passion for driving operational excellence.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts effectively.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a high-performing Manufacturing Engineering team to support the assembly and production of optical-based laser systems, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Oversee process planning, shop layout design, equipment selection, and commissioning of facilities.
- Work closely with engineering, supply chain, project management, and plant operations to enhance manufacturability, production efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Analyze BOMs, make ‘Make/Buy’ decisions, determine process flows, and write detailed work, inspection, test, and troubleshooting instructions for complex electrical and mechanical assemblies. Develop and optimize processes for precision optical components, laser assemblies, and electro-mechanical subsystems.
- Drive initiatives using lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and DFMA principles.
- Collaborate with R&D and product design teams to refine designs for manufacturability and cost reduction while staying updated on advancements in laser manufacturing, optics assembly, and automation.
- Oversee supplier selection, tooling design reviews, and price negotiations and ensure compliance with quality standards through regular audits and capability studies.
