Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in program development, economic development, business services, or M/WBE advocacy.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Public or Business Administration, Public Affairs and Policy, Economics, the Social Sciences, or a related field. A Master’s degree may substitute for up to two years of experience.
- Experience with public policy, business development policy, or small business development initiatives.
- Strong data analysis, policy evaluation, and program administration skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Passion for inclusive economic development, business recovery, and equitable access to opportunities in emerging industries.
- NYC residency required within 180 days of hire.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement new initiatives to support M/WBE firms in gaining access to opportunities within high-growth industries such as technology, life sciences, gaming, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing.
- Serve as a liaison between Opportunity M/W/DBE leadership and internal/external stakeholders to shape and execute new policies and programs that drive industry diversification for M/WBE firms.
- Manage program consultants, vendor relationships, and contract administration to ensure the successful execution of capacity-building and technical assistance programs.
- Establish and maintain relationships with M/WBE firms, industry leaders, and ecosystem partners to identify business growth opportunities and emerging sector needs.
- Collaborate across departments to analyze market trends, implement programmatic expansions, and align capacity-building initiatives with future NYCEDC projects.
- Facilitate cross-departmental working groups to integrate M/WBE participation into broader economic development strategies, particularly in innovation-driven sectors.
- Conduct policy research and analysis to support leadership in reporting on M/WBE advancements to the Mayor’s Office of M/WBE, government agencies, and external stakeholders.
- Organize and develop external events, forums, and conferences that promote industry engagement, networking, and market entry for M/WBE firms.
- Support and execute programmatic goals to ensure alignment with M/WBE business development needs across NYCEDC initiatives and city, state, and federal regulations.
- Negotiate M/W/DBE programmatic requirements in contracts to ensure meaningful participation in emerging industry projects.
- Identify and advocate for financial incentives, technical assistance, and policy recommendations that enhance M/WBE access to high-growth sectors.
- Support recruitment, training, and professional development initiatives within the Opportunity M/W/DBE team.
- Represent NYCEDC’s Opportunity M/W/DBE department internally and externally, promoting a vision of inclusive economic development through industry diversification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in designing and managing small business programs that facilitate M/WBE access to high-growth industries.
- Knowledge of public procurement policies and regulations.
- Understanding of workforce development programs and business ecosystem development.
- Familiarity with emerging and fast-growing industries within New York City, including the technology, life sciences, gaming, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
- Strong network within New York City’s technology, life sciences, gaming, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
