Requirements
- Advanced scientific or medical degree (PhD, PharmD, MD) preferred; MS or equivalent experience in biomedical sciences considered.
- 6+ years of experience in Medical Communications, Publications Operations, or Medical Affairs within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong knowledge of publication planning and execution, including scientific writing, peer-reviewed publication processes, and congress activities.
- Proficiency in publications management systems (Datavision, PubStrat, or similar tools).
- Experience leading medical publication workflows, submission tracking, and compliance reporting.
- Knowledge of industry guidelines (GPP, ICMJE, Sunshine Act, PhRMA Code, FDA, OIG, ACCME).
- Ability to work in a matrixed, cross-functional environment and engage with key stakeholders in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Regulatory teams.
- Strong project management skills to oversee multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholders effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills to facilitate collaboration with internal and external partners.
Responsibilities
- Provide operational leadership and execution oversight for global publication planning and scientific communication deliverables.
- Manage publications management systems (e.g., Datavision, PubStrat) to track progress, enhance workflow efficiency, and ensure compliance with publication guidelines.
- Support the planning, development, and submission process for abstracts, manuscripts, and congress presentations, ensuring timely and high-quality execution.
- Ensure compliance with Good Publication Practices (GPP), ICMJE guidelines, and internal policies to uphold transparency and integrity in publications.
- Lead the implementation of metrics and reporting for publication performance and impact analysis.
- Oversee and optimize publications management platforms to improve team efficiency, collaboration, and tracking of medical communication deliverables.
- Maintain a centralized system for scientific communication materials, including reference libraries, publication archives, and congress materials.
- Ensure alignment between medical communications, medical affairs, clinical, and commercial teams to maintain consistency in messaging.
- Partner with IT and external vendors to enhance digital capabilities and streamline publication workflows.
- Act as the key operational contact for internal stakeholders (Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Legal, Compliance, Regulatory, and Commercial teams) to facilitate seamless execution of publication plans.
- Support the development of scientific communication platforms to ensure consistency in external messaging.
- Provide internal training and guidance on publication processes, compliance standards, and best practices.
- Support scientific congress planning and execution, coordinating key deliverables such as abstracts, posters, and symposia.
- Manage external medical communication agencies, vendors, and freelancers, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
- Oversee budgets, contracts, and financial tracking for publication-related projects.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost efficiencies in medical communications operations.
