Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering / operations discipline.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years prior experience in managing facilities operations, preferably in biotech or pharmaceutical R&D.
  • Minimum of 3 years prior experience in people management; preferably in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills required along with the ability to plan and organize using an in-depth working knowledge of how R&D operates.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with an emphasis on collaboration, mentorship, and team development.
  • Ability to evaluate service requests and develop collaborative solutions.
  • Knowledge of Facilities Operations techniques, engineering, and project management methodologies.
  • A dynamic approach and comfortable working in an agile environment.
  • Strong technical capabilities with high performance buildings and lab environments.
  • Experience working in a multi-team environment within a global framework.
  • Experience with facilities operations budget development and upkeep.
  • Good understanding of building readiness and handover in relation to facilities operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Owns & manages the relationship with key operations vendors, clients, and portfolio managers, within own business area and across site.
  • Generate performance metrics related to maintenance efficiency, customer satisfaction, and compliance, providing actionable insights for continuous improvement.
  • Work to manage contracts and contribute to RPF/RFI’s when necessary.
  • Responsible for executing preventive and corrective maintenance tasks according to the plans provided by the Maintenance Planner + ensures that all maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with company standards and regulations while maintaining accurate documentation and completing all required steps in the Hexagon CMMS system.
  • Develop and effectively manage department budget. Provide technical input for related infrastructure, capital, master planning, and facilities equipment strategies.
  • Identify & implement efficiency opportunities within the site operations.
  • Provide effective technical services for daily support of the operations group.
  • Integrate and sustain culture of continuous improvement.
  • Works with global utility strategy team and owns electricity, steam, fuel oil, & lab bulk gasses strategy for site. Ensures compliance and sustainability goals are met.
  • Contributes to developing implementing operational plans to achieve Facilities Management strategy objectives both locally and throughout North American portfolio.
  • Engages customers to understand their needs and preferences, how well these are met and how these are likely to change and develop.
  • Identifies and organizes additional resources to achieve business objectives either through AZ staff, resident contractors, or specialist contractors.
  • Manages and monitors the performance of each functional area under direct control, pro-actively identifying any barriers to delivery or performance issues and taking action to address these challenges immediately.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety practices and regulatory compliance, fostering a culture of safety and risk management throughout all operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge with applying Six Sigma to R&D
  • Experience working in a LEAN environment.
  • Experience with procurement and financial tracking systems such as Coupa and SAP
