Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited university, AND a valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah with a ‘License Area of Concentration’ of ‘Administration’ OR willingness to obtain a Utah license within 6 months
  • 2 years of K-12 teaching experience and 2 years of K-12 educational administration experience hiring and supervising teachers/faculty OR Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of technologies and pedagogical methodologies, especially as applied to distance learning education
  • Experience and skills in hiring, mentoring, supporting, and evaluating K-12 teachers
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with the program’s 150 high school teachers in addressing the following tasks: Recruiting, Interviewing, Hiring, Managing, Supervising, Mentoring, Evaluating, and Training
  • Serve as the primary contact for assigned High School teachers on academic issues and teacher performance
  • Consult with the Educational Services Manager and Academic Product Managers to propose improvements in faculty support strategies for curriculum improvement/development
  • Develop an in-service training program for faculty contracted to support the department’s courses and students
  • Ensure timely grading and feedback on assignments per contracted agreements
  • Develop and manage relationships with part-time and full-time faculty to maintain support for Independent Study’s courses and BYU Online High School’s asynchronous and synchronous components
  • Ensure faculty performance through annual evaluations, feedback, and PDPs
  • Works directly with the program’s high school teachers (currently 15-30 teachers) to obtain teacher licensure in states outside of Utah
  • Ensures the effective and efficient operation of the Educational Services Office and Functions
  • Provides administrative support to the department’s assessment plan and processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Proficiency in utilizing educational technology to enhance learning and student management
  • Working knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS)
  • Experience in online learning environments, particularly at the secondary level
  • Experience with online learning curriculum development and role of authors/Subject Matter Experts (SME)
  • Familiarity with teacher licensing in other states outside of Utah
