Requirements
- Juris doctorate and active bar license in at least 1 state (preferably Texas)
- 5+ years of related experience handling mortgage origination and regulatory matters in a law firm, regulatory agency or in-house
- Prior experience handling Texas homestead and home equity lending matters
Responsibilities
- Analyzes legal issues and implications on consumer mortgage origination products, services, third-party vendors, and federal and state regulatory matters
- Communicates clear, concise, actionable, and business-informed legal advice, including occasionally to leadership
- Interprets rulings, laws, and regulations from a compliance and business control standpoint
- Drafts and reviews mortgage documents, analyzes loan files for complaint resolution, and reviews digital and marketing collateral
- Gathers, assesses, and evaluates information from various sources to make a judgment or assist the business with a strategic or risk assessment
- Supports company responses to government agency examinations and investigations, enforcement actions, and private complaints, and litigation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience of working in or with Financial Services institutions, particularly on mortgage banking
- Federal regulatory experience (HMDA/TRID), as well as digital expertise (E-SIGN/AI), and mortgage operations/product and pricing knowledge
