Requirements

  • BS Engineering, Math, Physics, IT, Computer Science or Chemistry
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Functional knowledge of engines, emission control hardware, propulsion system embedded controls and diagnostics
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to concurrently manage multiple complex projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results
  • Detail oriented
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and root cause analysis skills, especially where problems are unusual and difficult
  • This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on an occasional basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.

Responsibilities

  • Work on a variety of fleets including car, truck, light duty, and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Have knowledge and keep abreast of fuel economy and green-house gas regulations as specified by NHTSA, EPA, and CARB
  • Point contact for program related Car line, roadload and fuel economy
  • Lead the creation of car line, documenting all related data, submitting data to EPA and interacting with regulatory agencies as needed
  • Lead the creation and calculation of annual fuel economy labels from vehicle development through government approvals
  • Lead multi-departmental meetings for the development of test planning, documenting all program related inputs
  • Verify and document all work has been completed for official fuel economy labels, including coastdown audits and surveys
  • Provide direction relative to fuel economy regulation requirements
  • Completion of fleet average fuel economy / GHG reports
  • Own the creation of annual road load values, including the calculations of road loads and alignment of VDS restriction statements between the Certification and Energy Engineers
  • Provide direction for IT improvements of current and future tools
  • Detail the standard work and roles & responsibilities for Fuel Economy, CAFE, and GHG.
  • Tracks and reports assignment status, timing, and technical issues
  • Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities.
  • Ensures high quality, on time completion of tasks
  • Proactively communicates with all collaborators
  • Implement functional requirements independent of Manager’s direction
  • Author technical reports and present fuel economy work, both within and external to GM
  • Maintain GM Corporate Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) policy and properly manage official documentation of fuel economy compliance activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years engineering experience related to emission controls and/or diagnostics release, development/verification, certification, and/or compliance
  • Experience as company representative to Government agencies and/or industry associations
  • DFSS Black Belt
