Requirements

  • Strong understanding of managed care practices and operations.
  • Knowledge of and experience with state and federal insurance programs formulary inclusions, programs for Medicare/Medicaid.
  • Familiarity with appropriate local, state, and federal pharmacy-related regulations for multiple states.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to supervise and communicate effectively with staff, management and executives.
  • Strong organization and time management skills and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Must be detail oriented and have a strong sense of understanding when it comes to data evaluation and interpretation.
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally and/or nationally up to 10% of the time; flexible to work evening, weekends and/or holidays as needed.
  • Spoken and written fluency in English.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a national pharmacy consultant for our physicians regarding patient case inquiries, drug interactions, therapy suggestions, and more.
  • Analyzes data and trends related to internal prescriptions and medication orders for appropriateness, focusing on safety and efficacy, while assisting in the creation and management of the formulary.
  • Reviews and verifies prescriptions and medication orders for appropriateness, including safety and efficacy.
  • Conducts prospective drug utilization reviews, evaluating proper dosage, usage directions, drug interactions, duplicate therapies, and other regimen-related factors, making case-by-case and population health interventions as necessary. Provides timely access to reliable drug information from available sources.
  • Oversees pharmacotherapeutics services in accordance with institutional practice standards and or protocols collaborating with specialists to develop clinical guidelines for our clinicians in the centers.
  • Creates and implements programs, SOPs, and guidelines that enhance practice and patient outcomes.
  • Provides efficient cost-effective patient centered care that minimizes hospitalization expenses.
  • Provides daily verbal and written consultations about medication therapy.
  • Engages in the implementation and maintenance of guidelines and order sets alongside the department leader and other specialists.
  • Contributes to the education and mentorship of pharmacy residents and students by creating standard operating procedures for the program and overseeing their execution.
  • Works in collaboration with Part D Clinical Pharmacist to deliver presentations, publications, and other informative activities related to specialty practice, as well as Part D education for HEDIS measures.
  • Acts as the pharmacy department’s representative on pertinent committees and teams, taking on the role of chair for the P&T meeting. In this position, you will be responsible for creating the slide deck, gathering information, and conducting research to present recommendations from the pharmacy department. Provide input and guidance for management of medication formulary alongside the Pharmacy COE leader.
  • Follows established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control products.
  • Supports and facilitates the Quality Improvement process through the continuous development and monitoring of performance improvement indicators.
  • Fosters growth and effectiveness of Pharmacy work teams to meet quality and clinical care standards.
  • Assists Pharmacy leadership in ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources while meeting budget and value proposition targets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharmacy residency training is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with supervising Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Experience in a managed care setting (HMO, MSO, PBM) is a plus.
  • Certified to provide immunization is a plus.
  • Completion of Medication Therapy Management certificate program or Ambulatory Care Certificate.
  • Experience teaching is a plus.
