Requirements

  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in process automation, particularly in chemical/refinery/gas plant maintenance/inspection/engineering
  • At least 10 years of hands-on Instrument & Controls Engineering experience in gas, petrochemical, or related industries
  • Experience in Air Separation, HYCO (SMR and POX), Ammonia, and CO2 facility commissioning is a plus
  • Proven technical and practical problem-solving skills with a good business sense
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, teamwork, and decision-making skills, with clear and effective communication abilities
  • Strong oral and written skills, with the ability to communicate commissioning activities to the Commissioning management team daily
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and a working knowledge of Completions/Turnover package systems is an advantage
  • Ability to read single-line drawings, P&IDs, ladder logic, wiring schematics, and other technical documentation
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance knowledge of Siemens PCS7 Distributed Control System (DCS) is required, with additional programming proficiency in Siemens PCS7, Step7, and WinCC being a plus
  • Hands-on ability to configure, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair various plant process instrumentation
  • Fundamental understanding of computer networks is desirable
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with logical and systematic thinking
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles such as Safety Integrity Level (SIL), Safety Instrumented System (SIS), Safety Instrumented Function (SIF), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
  • Hands-on knowledge of construction and commissioning tools, process plant instrumentation, test and calibration equipment, control systems, analyzers, control and switch valves, fabrication and wiring of instrumentation equipment
  • Experience with high and low voltage systems, including troubleshooting and repair of motors, transformers, gas circuit breakers, solenoids, switches, and relays
  • Knowledgeable in IT infrastructure with the ability to troubleshoot and communicate level 1 and level 2 issues
  • Experience in commissioning and startup support, project work, plant operations, and maintenance efforts
  • Understanding of local environmental and health and safety requirements
  • Familiarity with vendor contracts and shop support in the region is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Lead Instrument/Controls commissioning and startup, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and Critical Safety Circuit (CSC) validations
  • Review and develop Inspection Test Reports (ITRs) and track punch items
  • Perform Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments and ensure quality assurance during construction and commissioning
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering to improve operating and control strategies
  • Provide technical support for new installations, modifications, and maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Lead investigations and implement corrective actions for safety and reliability issues
  • Supervise contractors and ensure adherence to safety and reliability standards
  • Provide and maintain a safe work environment, demonstrating leadership with all company and industry safe work processes to prevent all injuries
  • Complete hands-on Instrument & Controls commissioning and startup activities including troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and test activities
  • Provide Instrument & Controls support during the commissioning of the plants, maintaining accurate document control and monitoring quality assurance initiatives to uphold the history going forward
  • Lead Instrument & Controls commissioning and startup efforts to ensure safety, reliability, and maintainability of the Instrument & Controls equipment
  • Complete Critical Safety Circuit (CSC) validations for the units being commissioned
  • Review and develop Inspection Test Reports (ITRs), using a completions tool to track punch items and progress
  • Perform Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments and verification
  • Offer engineering support and prepare punch lists during the construction and commissioning phases, ensuring accurate document control and quality assurance initiatives
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering to identify gaps and scope of improvements in operating and control strategies to achieve productivity targets
  • Ensure availability and record-keeping of the most updated detailed engineering specifications for the procurement of Instrument & Controls systems components and equipment
  • Assist with engineering input for the development and maintenance of Instrument & Controls systems and equipment standards, procedures, inspection contracts, and guidelines for selecting contractors
  • Provide technical support for new installations, plant modifications, operations, and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and Air Products’ safety and technical standards
  • Provide technical support and safety leadership for Management of Change (MOC), Operational Hazard Reviews (OPHR), and other safety-related initiatives
  • Lead investigations and Root Cause Analysis to identify and implement sustainable corrective actions
  • Ensure the safety of all personnel onsite by applying the Air Products Basic Safety Practice program, which includes Safety Work Permits, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, etc., contributing to building the Air Products safety culture
  • Understand Environmental Regulatory requirements
  • Support Instrument & Controls construction and commissioning activities
  • Ensure that Air Products meets the standards for EH&S, productivity, reliability, quality, and customer services
  • Monitor and complete preventative and corrective maintenance activities for Instrument & Controls equipment commissioning to achieve safety and reliability targets
  • Maintain equipment commissioning document integrity through accurate technical reports
  • Supervise and assist Instrument & Controls contractors with site-related activities, ensuring the safety and reliability philosophy is followed
  • Take charge of the commissioning technician and engineering teams, addressing issues and completing cost-effective solutions to meet project objectives regarding safety, reliability, product quality, and flexibility in product supply
  • Facilitate operations excellence and customer satisfaction through commissioning productivity, reliability, quality, and cost-reduction efforts
  • Provide Instrument & Controls commissioning support, participate in incident investigations, and conduct Root Cause Analysis to implement sustainable corrective actions
  • Exhibit exceptional organizational, planning, interpersonal, and communication skills, establishing credibility and respect across the organization
  • Collaborate closely with the commissioning team and engineering to ensure alignment with project objectives

Preferred Qualifications
