Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of professional engineering or design experience
  • 5+ years of experience in new mechanical / hardware product development
  • 3+ years of experience with a stage-gate product development process

Responsibilities

  • Proficiency and experience in Systems Engineering, Requirements Management, Design Excellence, Problem Solving techniques, and Project Management.
  • Direct experience running cross-functional new product development programs.
  • Experience in leading and managing design initiatives across global design centers.
  • Able to train and influence technical teams.
  • Excellent communication skills to provide technical assistance, assessment, and training for new product development programs.
  • Ability to promote lessons learned and best practices sharing.
  • Ability to communicate across language, cultural, and organizational levels.
  • Ability to leverage and continuously develop peer-to-peer interactions with RDL colleagues across Carrier to share best practices and lessons learned.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and interpretation of policies and standard work for engineering.
  • Provide training and support for development teams in applying design standards, methods, tools, and concepts.
  • Provide processes, training, and tools for: Systems Engineering, Requirements Gathering, Critical Parameter Management, FMEA, conducting Design Reviews, Problem Solving techniques, Project Management, Requirements Management, Risk Management, Test & Reliability, and new product development deliverables.
  • Chair or participate as necessary on project review boards and design review boards; assist teams to drive product development deliverables to completion.
  • Drive improvement and standardization by implementing effective processes that help product teams deliver robust products.
  • Promote regular Carrier-wide networking events to allow Robust Design Leads to leverage and continuously develop peer-to-peer interactions.
  • Formulate and execute plans to close identified skills gaps in Engineering, aligned with Carrier University.
  • Maintain the core process for identification and selection of Robust Design Leaders.
  • Provide training on the RDL role, purpose, and core responsibilities.
  • Follow up to ensure each RDL has a local plan in place.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Engineering or Quality
  • Certified in APQP or Design for Six Sigma Black Belt certified.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
