- 1 of the following EEG Pathways – EEG Pathway I – CAAHEP Accredited NDT Program – Graduate of Program and Current CPR/BLS certification, EEG Pathway III – Associates Degree/RPSGT – Associates Degree (Higher Degree Acceptable) or RPSGT certificate and 1-year clinical EEG experience and Current CPR/BLS certification, EEG Pathway II – Non-CAAHEP Formal NDT Program – Certification of Completion form ABRET recognized Program (current listing on ABRET.org) and Current CPR/BLS certification, EEG Pathway IV – Practice Track – 5 years EEG Experience and Documentation of 150 EEGs and Current CPR/BLS certification
Responsibilities
- Ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10-20 System
- Knowledgeable in correct EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results
- Maintains the patient’s safety through communication to other patient care support staff during EEG if needed
- Continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPPA practices, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation and preparation for use
- Performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive function
- Knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects on activity monitored
- Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and healthcare staff to convey the purpose of the EEG and answers questions regarding the procedure
- Understands why and how to maintain correct electrode connections
- Identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and eliminations
- Understands and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the EEG unit
- Has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and alternate equipment settings and their effects should be applied
- Familiar with the facility policy and procedures for completion of the technical EEG report, charging procedures, and logging the patient into files
- Contacts supervisory staff as appropriate for problems within the EEG unit, stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures
- Other duties as assigned
