Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (extensive experience may be considered as an alternative to degree) should include course work in safety management, safety and environment regulations, workers’ compensation, etc.
  • Minimum of five years industrial safety experience or CSP certification
  • Health and environment experience, including hands on oversight in a manufacturing facility.
  • Strong training background.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience building and leading teams
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations
  • General knowledge of EPA and environmental type regulations
  • Strong PC skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database)

Responsibilities

  • Manages, supports, and drives multi-mill Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) and Facility Defense programs to ensure operations minimize the impact upon the environment and provides a safe and hazard-free work environment.
  • Plans and delivers programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices.
  • Investigate and review injuries and illnesses to determine if injury/illness results in an unsafe work practice or unsafe work environment.
  • Analyze injury data to identify trends and types injuries that can be prevented.
  • Manage compliance with the company’s Facility Defense aspects as well as compliance with applicable EPA and other environmental permits and regulations.
  • Conduct management and supervisory training in current safety topics for Ardent Mills locations.
  • Oversee Contractor training compliance is adequate and insure Contractor training is conducted.
  • Review proposed/new regulations for content and develop new or incorporate into existing EHS policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Insure timely and appropriate corrective action to all Environment, Security, and Health & Safety compliance audits.
  • Compliance management of environmental permit conditions.
  • Timely submittal of environmental permit renewal applications.
  • Insure, where applicable, adherence to PSM program elements for chlorine.
  • Perform annual LTT certifications for all qualified workers.
  • Coordinate the annual Electrical Worker certification program.
  • Coordinate environmental activities such as Sustainable Development, Zero Waste, etc. initiatives and programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification health and safety desirable.
  • Experience dealing with and advanced knowledge of regulatory agencies, i.e., OSHA, EPA, DOT, FDA
  • Bilingual in Spanish
