Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or equivalent.
- Minimum of three to five years experience with safety and environmental programs in a utility, chemical, environmental or manufacturing industry.
- Must be familiar with Federal, state, and local regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills are required.
- Requires an individual with a high degree of professionalism.
- Requires the ability to work well independently and effectively with others, on a daily basis.
- Successful candidates will also be detail-oriented, able to take direction and handle multiple tasks, prioritize work effectively, and see a project through to completion.
- A willingness to acquire new skills and utilize technology to streamline processes and problem-solve is essential.
- High level of proficiency with computer software programs, databases, spreadsheets, email, and word processing software required; Microsoft Office and Windows are preferred.
- Experience with reading and understanding regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assists with conducting internal assessments related to, but not limited to, PSM, RCRA, OSHA, DOT, CAA, CSW, and FRA regulations.
- Conducts internal audits to ensure the environmental, health, and safety programs at the site comply with associated regulations.
- Serves as a contact to safety regulatory agencies, and provides notification to government agencies as directed by the EH&S Manager.
- Assists with record retention and file organization for the EH&S Department.
- Prepares reports for regulatory submittal, including, but not limited to, Wastewater Discharge, Tier II, TIR, Colorado Air Toxics, Air Emission Regulations (40 CFR 264 Subpart AA, BB, CC, APENS), Benzene NESHAP, TSCA PCB, etc.
- Participates in mandatory training and other programs.
- Participates in conducting audits at other Veolia facilities located across the United States, and downstream disposal outlets.
- Identifies Safety risks and provides mitigation plans that are consistent with business performance and reliability goals.
- Establishes Safety management systems that support company goals and meet/or exceed regulatory requirements.
- Directs Safety site assessments and due diligence for expansion projects. Audits and enhances existing safety programs.
- Works closely with Managers and Supervisors to ensure effective implementation and enforcement of Safety policies and procedures including inspections.
- Serves as Co-Chairperson of the plant Safety Committee(s).
- Works closely with managers and supervisors to develop training resources and schedules and plans based on the facility’s operating requirements and needs. Develop and maintain the site’s existing training system(s).
- Meets formally and informally with all departments to ensure plans are supported and all safety requirements are in place.
- Maintains plant safety records including permits, compliance data, training records etc.
- Conducts facility inspections. Provides compliance status reports to management.
- Develops hazard control designs, methods, procedures, and programs.
- Coordinates work-site evaluation and characterization and job hazard analyses with respect to chemical, physical, and biological exposures.
- Audits and measures the effectiveness of hazard controls and hazard control programs. Communicates the results to management.
- Designs and implements Supervisor and Employee training programs on topics such as accident investigation, safety inspections, use of protective equipment, confined space entry, lockout, tagout, respiratory protection, etc.
- Review accidents and perform incident investigations to identify root cause(s). Assist facility staff to implement and close Corrective and/or Preventative Actions identified.
- Oversee Worker’s Compensation cases and fit for duty/return to work programs.
- Coordinates Industrial Hygiene (IH) program, conducts inspections, schedules consultant services, ensures collection of quality data.
- Maintains facility Material Safety Data Sheets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Preferred: Ability to obtain CSP or CHI certification.
