Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related Engineering discipline with a focus on energy or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of electrical utility markets and operations
- Experienced with low voltage power distribution systems including switchgears, substations, panelboards, circuit breakers and interconnecting wires
- Experienced with load studies and energy simulations
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex system-level problems
- Experience working with large datasets and optimizing large models, with a strong understanding of infrastructure challenges and limitations
- Capability to multi-task, prioritize and thrive in an extremely fast-paced environment
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- High motivation to work on “first-of-its-kind” projects with resilience and tenacity
Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and execute strategies to maximize energy savings at Tesla facilities while minimizing associated CapEx and OpEx
- Create and maintain relationships with utility officials to expedite interconnection agreements and initiate customized incentives leveraging Tesla’s large scale utility contracts and resources
- Develop tools that enable end-users to make informed operational decisions by clearly showing how their changes impact energy consumption and costs
- Conduct power flow and electricity consumption studies and run energy simulations focused on cost savings and load shifting
- Develop and implement tools and frameworks to guide facility location decisions, focusing on Tesla’s best interests by assessing OpEx related to energy costs
- Lead front-end and back-end load-shifting and scheduling systems, followed by economic feasibility studies and electrical planning
- Evaluate and enhance model performance, with a focus on increasing facility energy efficiency and adaptability to facilities upgrades and electricity market changes with minimal human intervention
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and end-users to implement energy optimization models and new load schedules, ensuring they meet high performance and reliability standards
- Present energy efficiency concepts and progress at project milestones to stakeholders and multi-disciplinary teams
