Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Completion of Basic EMT training program or Paramedic Training is required in the state of practice
- Current Basic EMT or Paramedic license in state of practice is required
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS- HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval
- Current IV Certification in state of practice is required
Responsibilities
- Obtains patients vital signs to include blood pressure, pulse and temperature and understands normal ranges and changes. Informs RNs or Physician of changes in vital signs.
- Collects blood, urine, saliva and stool samples for laboratory analysis.
- Inserts Foley catheters, performs straight catheters, provides wound care.
- Fits patients for casts and/or hard splints, crutches and other devices.
- Performs 12-lead EKGs.
- Provides instruments to doctors and nurses as they perform procedures on patients.
- Assists with the safe movement of patients, applying principles of safe patient handling.
- Assists with admitting patients into the ER, schedules patient transfers, reinforces patient education/discharge instructions as given by the RN.
- Apply, check and document restraints as directed by the RN or Physician.
- Performs the duties of unit secretary. Maintains patient charts, responds to phone calls, maintains daily assignment board, provides equipment care/cleaning, performs errands associated with patient care and provides accurate information about the patient with interdisciplinary team.

- Demonstrates and adheres to the standards of infection prevention.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.
- Follows principals and upholds the Standards of Infection Prevention.
- May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
