Requirements
- Building and operating large-scale cloud-distributed systems, with reliability and observability and evolvability.
- 5+ years of experience in software development
- Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
- Outstanding technical skills (backend engineering, object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms): Uber managers can lead from the front when the situation calls for it.
- 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer science or related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and analysis implications clearly across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
- Great management and team development skills: the ability to set a roadmap and goals for a team and every one of its members, delegate wisely, mentor engineers, deliver frequent and transparent feedback, help team members grow in their careers, and deliver results
Responsibilities
- Lead and scale a team of engineers, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Define the technical vision for and ensure alignment with Storage Platform’s broader strategy and stakeholders.
- Drive execution, delivering cutting-edge solutions that impact millions of rides per day.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Program Management, Finance to deliver aligned results.
- Grow and develop top engineering talent, providing mentorship and career growth opportunities.
- Uphold engineering excellence and ensure a scalable, reliable, and efficient platform.
- Influence senior leadership, shaping the future of Uber’s cloud strategy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building cloud services with Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, Google GCP, or Oracle OCI.
- Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through the actual launch of the project
- Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements and describe software product features and technical designs.
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats depending on the needs of the team
- 8+ years of proven experience in software engineering
- Experience building and operating cloud-scale distributed database systems
