Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in environmental, natural science, engineering preferred and/or a combination of education and the following job related experience
- 1 – 2 years related experience in field operations and/or environmental compliance
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations and standards
- Ability to analyze, research, compile, and prepare permit applications, logs, reports, and correspondence and company responses to agency requests
- Ability to evaluate, research, and interpret governmental regulations, equipment performance manuals, regulatory agency guidance and instructions, reports, correspondence, and company policies and procedures
- Ability to pay attention to details
- Ability to apply math and algebraic formulas
- Ability to interact, advise and communicate effectively, exchange information/provide instructions, conduct verbal presentations
- Ability to develop communications utilizing fundamental technical writing skills
- Ability to present training materials
- Ability to utilize office equipment including computers and applicable job related software, including Microsoft Office tools
- Ability to conduct work in an elevated lift or other elevated locations
- Ability to operate tools/equipment
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a mentor to navigate more complex compliance requirements, organizational procedures and tools, regulatory applicability determinations and identification of compliance requirements and tasks
- Perform field inspections at operating assets, construction or remediation projects to identify compliance improvement opportunities
- Provide data gathering and analysis for emerging regulatory issues in support of Industry Association committees or the company’s emerging issues management
- Facilitate individual environmental programs with the goal of developing an understanding of the programs and applicability to the company
- Utilize established procedures and tools to facilitate and demonstrate compliance
- Receive and review operating, construction or remediation reports and compliance inspections and provide a cursory review to compare to compliance obligations
- Work within an already established system to provide data management and environmental records maintenance for a facility or area
- Conduct site inspections and prepare inspection reports related to Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and other regulatory or corporate requirements
- Utilize computer software for tracking and complying with environmental regulatory matters
- Collaborate with contract personnel performing environmental compliance work to ensure quality work is delivered in a timely manner
- Communicate and may advise site personnel and contractors on regulatory requirements
- Maintain environmental records and assist in preparing regulatory and corporate reports
- Monitor, coordinate support of and respond to spills, releases and emergencies related to the spill or release of materials within plant and field operating areas
- Coordinate activities related to initial response to a spill or release (including regulatory notifications where applicable) through the clean-up phase
- Interface with management, employees, customers, contractors and regulatory agencies regarding technical matters related to all phases of spill or releases and cleanup operations
- Assist in assessing (data gathering, emergency response actions, determining reportability, spill/response scenarios
- Collect environmental samples and prepares samples for laboratory shipment. Review laboratory reports to determine appropriate waste characterizations
- Manage, with oversight, the handling and shipping of hazardous, non-hazardous, universal, and industrial waste. Facilitate waste shipments
- Assess water pollutants by collecting and analyzing basic water samples from process water and industrial waste water
- Operate analysis equipment, such as pH meters, chemical analyzers, and air emissions monitoring equipment
- Orders environmental supplies
- Responsible for ensuring a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
