Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (environmental science, biology, chemistry, natural resources, or ecology or related field)
- Minimum of 2 years of environmental experience for Environmental Specialist
- Minimum of 6 years of environmental experience for Environmental Specialist Sr
- Minimum of 10 years of environmental experience for Environmental Specialist Principal
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET or 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master’s degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET for Engineer
- 6 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET for Engineer Sr
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred
Responsibilities
- Identifies, clarifies, resolves, and initiates solutions to compliance problems that require multi-functional, or organizational, interfacing and/or multi-discipline analytical techniques.
- Interprets environmental regulations and procedures required by external agencies in addition to policies, practices, standards and rules of the company in the context of system upsets and other unusual conditions.
- Solves routine compliance problems and performs routine analyses with minimum direction or oversight from higher-level employees.
- Performs environmental due diligence on properties for acquisition and divesture. Identifies and scopes environmental testing as needed.
- Provides guidance and direction to project manager and field staff on a variety of testing and/or remedial activities.
- Scopes, oversees and reviews Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.
- Interprets results and provides guidance on next steps.
- Provides guidance and direction for proper handling and disposal of a wide variety of materials, including hazardous wastes.
- Provides training and guidance to a variety of internal business units.
- Initiates corrective action when project objectives are not being met.
- Develops, reviews and presents technical reports and analyses in a clear, concise and effective fashion.
- Develops and implements standards of work as it relates to the group’s activities and continually seeks process improvements.
- Develops, reviews and prepares reports on complex technical subjects clearly, concisely and effectively, in a manner suitable for presentation to management, professional societies, regulatory bodies, agencies or organizations, including other similar peer and/or industry groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with RCRA, TSCA, and/or DOT regulations preferred
- Individuals with a Master’s or Doctorate degree may be considered for entry into the organization at this level
- Registration in recognized associations and organizations for environmental professionals is encouraged
