Requirements
- Associate Degree and one year of histology experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Some positions will require ASCP (HT/HTL) certification within 2 years of hire
Responsibilities
- Processes, embeds, cuts and stains tissue specimens in a high volume patient care lab utilizing tissue processors, embedding centers, microtomes, stainers and coverslippers
- Processes, cuts and stains formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue samples for patient diagnosis
- Prepares and changes reagents and properly disposes chemical wastes
- Sorts, delivers and files slides and blocks
- Assists with ordering, receiving, labeling, and stocking incoming supplies and reagents
- Assists with quality control and quality assurance record keeping
- Assists in training personnel as needed
- Completes and organizes paperwork
- Assists with maintenance of equipment
- Other duties as assigned
