Requirements

  • Excellent written and spoken English is required including the preparation of technical documents in English
  • Experience with building/process controls in processing industries, utilities is an asset (i.e. chemical processing, utilities, mining, nuclear, life sciences, food, etc…), however experience in the Pharma industry is a major asset
  • Minimum 3 to 12+ months of controls experience
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, PLC code
  • Ability to perform programming/configuration of controllers and SCADA systems is an asset
  • Possess leadership skills, and be able to take initiative to lead projects, involving multiple stakeholders, departments, and varying complexity
  • Engineering degree from a College or University, preferably in Electrical, Electromechanical, Controls, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical solutions into the design, commissioning and start-up of automation systems, for upgrades, renovations and expansions of client facilities and processes
  • Support project execution from Feasibility through to project completion/handover, including all project stages such as: Feasibility, Concept Design, Basic Design, Detailed Design, Procurement, Construction, Project Management, Service/Support after handover
  • Prepare/perform/review electrical drawings, such as Panel Drawings, wiring diagrams, single line drawings
  • Perform program editing / configuration on PLCs, work with redundant systems, and SCADA systems
  • Review programming of equipment vendors and other automation firms
  • Perform automation / electrical troubleshooting on electrical panels and control systems
  • Travel may be occasionally required for meetings with clients, equipment fabrication vendors or Factory Acceptance Testing (FATs)
  • Work may require occasional support over shutdowns or extended hours, specifically during installation and commissioning / validation phases
  • Client-management (maintain key Client relationships in support of business development and pursuit of new work), project scheduling/budgeting, coordination of client and MMR resources for effective project delivery, supporting business development (providing technical support to the sales as required for proposals/opportunities), presenting at industry conferences/publishing papers etc.
  • Visit construction and installation sites
  • Supervise contractors during critical installations of process equipment and associated utilities
  • Other duties as assigned by client, and/or MMR, based on workload and project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous building/process controls experience in the processing industries is an asset, but not required (i.e. Nuclear / Chemical Processing / Food / Life Sciences, Oil & Gas, Car Manufacturing etc.)
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience is a major asset
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset
  • Knowledge of communication protocols Eth/IP, Modbus, Bacnet is an asset
  • Knowledge of networking is an asset
