Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry/Metallurgy or any other scientific field of study or three to five years equivalent work experience.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment and familiarity with laboratory equipment, workplace safety and/or previous experience in the use or testing of caustic/acidic cleaners, metallurgy testing and similar.
  • Proven experience following directions and reading work instructions with an associated experience in problem solving and decision making.
  • Familiarity with governmental regulations relating to chemical storage and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safety and well-being of the team in accordance with the company standards.
  • Monitor assigned work while reviewing completed jobs/projects to ensure adherence to work scope and company expectations, including quality expectations and labor factor adherence.
  • Constantly monitor and adjust job assignments to ensure that the production schedule is met in partnership with the scheduling and planning department. Review productivity via daily analysis of labor factors.
  • Utilize computer software programs and applications in assigning, verifying, tracking, and monitoring metrics and job assignments.
  • Motivate, coach, and counsel team members to achieve desired results.
  • Manage personnel work hours, scheduled time off, shift schedules, and overtime.
  • Perform functions, such as performance reviews, employee development, accountability of team members, conflict resolution, and disciplinary action within the Lab Department and in conjunction with the Inspection Manager when so required.
  • Collaborate with designated trainers and department managers to monitor, guide, and improve upon employee development as well as process improvements.
  • Conduct (along with the Inspection Department Manager) regularly scheduled department meetings, including monthly meetings and smaller more frequent group meetings as required.
  • Communicate changes that affect employees in a timely manner.
  • The supervisor shall have knowledge of and the ability to perform or lead the team in the following: Analytical testing of chemical tanks includes the collection of samples, performing titrations, maintaining lab records, and performing math calculations.
  • Maintain chemical tanks, including cleaning of tanks, preparing of new solutions, and performing chemical additions as may require.
  • Perform metallurgical prep, microscopic evaluation and mechanical testing of welds, thermal spray coatings and other metallic structures.
  • Prepare and label chemical etchants & reagents for various departments throughout the facility.
  • Adherence to the safety and regulatory requirements regarding the use and storage of chemicals.
  • Manage and maintain chemical inventory via online database system.
  • Properly label chemical waste containers following RCRA regulatory standards.
  • Perform engineering tasks associated with repair processes as assigned.
  • Communicate with all employees as a member of the organizational team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrate previous experience in the use and application in a work environment of basic math skills, such as decimals and percentages.
  • Experience in leading teams, projects and personnel or similar type skills.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
