Requirements
- Theoretical Engineering knowledge – Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization) – Advanced
- Practical engineering experience/application – Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g., field experience, standardization “Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.”) – Advanced
- Engineering documentation – Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation – Advanced
- Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements – Advanced
- Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment – Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements – Advanced
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET (or equivalent) accredited college/university, 7+ years’ experience performing engineering duties or an AS degree with 11 years’ experience performing engineering duties.
- Specialized advanced training is also required (e.g., PTI. WPI, a graduate level engineering degree).
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed, complex system analyses, designs and calculations using standard methodology & principles & other viable approaches.
- Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.
- Solves complex system operating problems.
- Utilizes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. (e.g., outages, system disturbances, power quality, load flow studies, maintenance recommendations).
- Prepare, maintain, & understand drawings (e.g., schematics, one-line diagrams).
- Develop & specify equipment, assemble documents & other requirements for assignments of complex level of difficulty using depth & breadth of expertise in own discipline.
- Serve as SME for Operations system/components (e.g., SCADA).
- Review and evaluate proposals and projects.
- Interpret internal/external business issues and recommend best practices and/or process improvements.
- Participate in Industry associations.
- Lead teams and provide expertise to Operations.
- Anticipates & make recommendations with respect to customer & stakeholder needs.
- Explains difficult concepts & influences others.
- May be required to make presentations to regulatory/public entities.
- Lead Operations teams to complete assigned tasks, conversions, and projects.
- Assist in guiding and mentoring engineers in Operations Manages and provides direction for resources outside of the department.
- Leads others to resolve complex system operating problems in non- std situations & develop creative solutions.
- Independently apply design stds., industry codes, design criteria, & UI polices/procedures. (e.g., planned system outage and clearance requests).
- Possesses an in-depth knowledge and interprets processes and standards related to Operations. Represents Operations on projects, task forces and studies. (e.g., EEI, ECNE, EPRI, ISO).
- Develop business cases & manage projects/processes/initiatives or teams in accordance with applicable UI guidelines.
- Coordinate phases of Operations work for assigned portions of a project/program. (e.g., clearance requests).
- Forecast, plan, schedule, monitor, control budget/estimates, for assigned tasks or projects.
- Assist in the management of resource allocation including developing forecasts and plans to ensure adequate resources are available.
- Possess a depth and breadth of experience in distribution design engineering and operations along with knowledge of internal/external business and regulatory issues (e.g., design criteria, standards, NESC).
- Maintains knowledge of leading-edge techniques or technology through participation in professional associations.
- Able to explain difficult concepts and influence others to change.
- Able to communicate orally or in writing to regulatory and/or public entities. Able to lead a Team or mentor others.
- Demonstrated performance as an Electric System Operations Engineer.
