Requirements

  • Associate’s degree, Technical/Business School Certificate or Diploma, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship, or other post high school training.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing, lab and/or R&D.
  • 5+ yr experience with Microsoft Office tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform test and troubleshoot advanced HVAC&R systems in an engineering laboratory.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues in the laboratory and ensure fast and safe resolutions.
  • Operates psychometric test rooms, test stands, and calorimeters.
  • Maintains, calibrates, and troubleshoots all psychometric room functions and controls.
  • Use Data Acquisition Systems such as LabView or equivalent to control and conduct testing.
  • Record and document test data utilizing data systems and MS Office applications.
  • Troubleshoot LabView and/or data acquisition and instrumentation problems.
  • Use laboratory equipment to perform pressure, temperature, and electrical measurements.
  • Mentor, train, and support junior technicians, aiding in their skill development.
  • Serve as the primary contact for escalated technical problems, providing expert advice to resolve them quickly.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, while following safety procedures and ensuring adherence to all EH&S requirements.
  • Adapt to new procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment handling to meet the more complex requirements and functions of the role.
  • Maintains a highly motivated work ethic while working with engineers and peers to ensure a collaborative and productive environment.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining organizational systems and ensuring orderly environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-year associate of science or engineering in engineering technology, mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • 8+ yr experience with HVAC&R equipment (Installation, Troubleshooting, Maintenance etc.).
  • Demonstrated record both working in team settings and autonomously completing tasks.
  • Hands-on experience with setting up test rigs, preferably related to HVAC&R systems, in psychrometric / environmental control chambers.
  • Experience with operating psychrometric chambers, environmental lab testing and data collection.
  • Experience operating, inspecting, and maintaining test setups and equipment to detect malfunctions (Troubleshoot units or instrumentation issues).
  • Familiarity with electrical work and LO/TO practices and procedures, including 460-3-60 machinery.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in the setup, maintenance, calibration, and utilization of a wide array of advanced laboratory equipment, including precision sensors and instruments for measuring pressure, temperature, humidity, and electrical parameters.
  • Experience with pumps, compressors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), control valves, and programmable logic controller (PLC) operations.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and electrical schematics for HVAC&R systems.
  • Experience and familiarity with operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Proficient in identifying and fixing data acquisition and instrumentation issues.
  • Familiarity with HVAC operation, refrigerant handling, and EPA certification.
  • Knowledge of safety standards for chemical, electrical and mechanical systems, including OSHA standards.
