Requirements

  • Experience handling all aspects of litigation in a diverse array of legal areas, including commercial, employment, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of litigation processes in both state and federal courts, including a strong understanding of civil procedures, rules of evidence, and litigation best practices
  • Proven ability to manage complex litigation matters and work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with alternative dispute resolution methods
  • Excellent written, communication, and negotiation skills, and the ability to identify, initiate and conclude strategic objectives in a collaborative, team-based ‘no ego’ environment
  • Ability to establish productive, trusting working relationships with individuals and teams both inside and outside the organization
  • Ability to think and work at both strategic and tactical levels
  • Orientation towards process improvement, growth and best in class people, process and technology solutions
  • Passion for service and a desire to invest in employees
  • Ability to manage budget/cost center
  • Excellent time management given high demand on time
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active bar membership in good standing in Texas
  • 5-7 years of litigation experience, preferably in a law firm with hands-on experience

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of litigation involving the company, including pre-litigation disputes, active cases, mediations, and appeals. Manage outside counsel as needed
  • Analyze and evaluate legal issues, develop and implement case strategies, all to minimize risk and achieve favorable outcomes in litigation matters
  • Prepare legal documents including pleadings, motions, and discovery requests, as well as work with the business to gather responsive information and documents in response to discovery
  • Work with insurance broker and carriers to submit notice of claims, and keep the carriers updated on litigation
  • Provide risk assessment and advice to internal stakeholders regarding potential litigation, updates on active litigation, and dispute resolution strategies
  • Review, audit, and track outside counsel invoices
  • Stay updated on relevant legal developments, industry trends, and changes in laws that may impact the company
