Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA and/or graduate degree preferred
  • 5-8 years of accounting experience or progressively challenging experience within an accounting function, financial services preferred
  • Excellent computer skills — especially in complex Excel functions to quickly be able to analyze data
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to understand and interpret complex accounting issues and processes and to recommend actions to ensure integrity of financial systems and compliance with GAAP
  • Works and communicates effectively with management and staff throughout the organization
  • Demonstrates project management skills with proven success at managing projects to completion with limited supervision

Responsibilities

  • Provide critical management and support for various control functions ensuring accurate and timely P&L, balance sheet, and month-end close procedures
  • Manages the processing, accounting entries, reconciliations, analysis and documentation of assigned job areas within the department
  • Ensure timely clearing and resolution of unresolved items or differences and monitoring and escalation of aged items
  • Improves the effectiveness of the team by making adjustments and/or enhancements to current accounting and/or reconciliation issues in an accurate and timely manner
  • Oversees loan accounting functions of the monthly, quarterly, and annual book close cycles, monitoring timely completion and escalating issues for resolution
  • Researches and applies accounting policy to business issues that arise
  • Establishes, documents and performs internal control procedures to ensure accurate and timely reconciliations
  • Understands how data flows through the financial systems to the accounting function in order to identify issues and take action to address them
  • Continually assesses the business value and efficiency of the work performed, making suggestions for improvements and collaborating with others in implementing them
  • Leads or actively participates in increasingly complex department projects and continuous improvement activities
  • Ensure team’s compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures
