Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 12+ years in database engineering/administration, including 2+ years managing or leading teams.
- Strong expertise with AWS RDS (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and DynamoDB; exposure to BigQuery a plus.
- Proven track record in performance tuning, query optimization, high availability, and security.
- Solid Linux (Red Hat/SUSE) system administration experience.
- Proficiency in Python, Shell scripting, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
- Hands-on experience with Docker/Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab).
- Familiarity with monitoring/logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable database solutions using AWS RDS (PostgreSQL/MySQL), DynamoDB, BigQuery, and other modern data platforms.
- Drive automation initiatives with Python, Shell scripting, GitLab CI/CD, and Terraform.
- Ensure high availability, performance, security, and cost efficiency across all DB systems.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize schemas, queries, and overall database architecture.
- Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response for database-related issues.
- Mentor, support, and technically guide a distributed team (US + India).
- Set clear goals, prioritize work strategically, and ensure timely delivery of team objectives.
- Represent the DBRE team in cross-functional discussions, advocating for team needs and updates.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement long-term plans for improving database reliability engineering practices.
- Contribute to a “shift-left” engineering culture by building reusable templates/modules in Backstage.
- Champion knowledge-sharing and documentation across database operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and tools like BigQuery or related GCP services.
