Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics/BioMedical Engineering, related technical field or equivalent practical experience
- 10+ years experience with consumer or industrial product development and electronics iteration
- 5+ years technical leadership experience
- Strong interpersonal skills, mentorship skills, and time-management skills
- Strong leadership and teamwork
- Strong written and oral communication skills to interface with internal stakeholders, external suppliers and customers worldwide
- Experience in electromechanical assemblies (e.g., LCD’s, batteries, sensors, flex circuits, PCB’s, antennas, buttons)
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing
- Experience with statistical analysis methods
- Data-driven and detail focused
- Self-motivating, flexible and capable of working on multiple projects concurrently
- Experience with manufacturing and manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, compression molding, sheet metal, stamping, MIM, soft goods and CNC machining) and process validation
- Experience with reliability, cosmetic specs, the QA process, and standard mechanical test methods
- Experience with product validation (Shock/Drop, Cycle and Environmental Testing)
- Experience collaborating with Asian manufacturing facilities, specifically in high-volume mass production
- Experience working through DFM challenges with external suppliers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills
- Collaborative and able to mesh well with a cross functional team while managing priorities and capabilities
Responsibilities
- Mentor, coach, train, and manage a team of Mechanical Engineers
- Set mechanical design direction for the department
- Foster the development of innovative design solutions
- Work with Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design, and Manufacturing team members to ensure that new products meet design and cost requirements
- Research materials, components and technologies for development opportunities
- Drive selection and qualification of critical partners for product development and manufacturing
- Build relationships with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to enable development of new technologies
- Work with a global supply base to develop and source components and evaluate new suppliers
- Travel to suppliers to evaluate and perform first article inspections
- Identify, procure and qualify equipment needed to test developed products
- Manage project activities to ensure on target, on time launch of new products in accordance with defined project plans
- Develop department budget
- Verify and analyze designs to meet product requirements
- Support and participate in VA/VE analysis
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes and/or automation
- Ability to travel internationally (approximately 4 to 5 weeks per year)
- Knowledge of HVAC systems
- Experience with integration of wireless antenna (Bluetooth, GPS, Wifi) into mechanical enclosures
- Experience with design of audio subsystems (microphones and speakers)
- Experience with design of optical and/or camera systems
- Experience with thermal modeling and analysis
