Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering (or related)
- 2+ years in mechanical design, collegiate design competition, or related experience
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership or leadership in an engineering project
- Demonstrated ability to seek out key (missing) information for challenging tasks
- Mechanical design and drawing generation using CAD tools
- Kinematic analysis and optimization
- Structural analysis utilizing hand calculations and finite element methods
- Materials selection inclusive of alloys, heat treatments, allowables, and finishes
- Roller element bearing selection and sizing
- Involute gear tooth design and analysis
- Ball and/or Lead screw design and analysis
Responsibilities
- Support the development of the critical, actuated mechanisms on the aircraft
- Support the design, build, and implementation of hydraulic-based structural loading test stands for qualification, certification, and production applications
- Team responsibilities include the electric propulsion system, propeller tilt mechanism, the variable pitch mechanism, the flight controls surface mechanisms (flaperons and ruddervators), and the landing gear systems
- Execute on the technical design direction, as well as ownership of the components from concept through delivery to manufacturing
Preferred Qualifications
- Siemens NX CAD and Simcenter or Ansys FEA tools
- Familiarity with PDM systems
- Familiarity with GD&T
- Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 23 regulations
- Proficiency in Matlab, Python, Mathcad, and/or Labview
- Hands-on machine shop or mechanic experience (professional or hobby)
- RTCA DO-160, structural, or actuated mechanism testing experience
- Demonstrated interest in aviation, including pilot training/license
