Requirements
- Required High School Diploma/GED
- Required completion of accredited Medical Assisting Program or 5 years Medical Assisting experience in lieu of education
- Basic Life Support Program (BLS) – American Heart Association
- Required certification within 6 months of hire
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcare Association (NHA)
Responsibilities
- Assist providers and staff in coordinating patient care
- Schedule appointments
- Execute physician orders for lab testing
- Enter information in electronic medical record system
- Function as a liaison between patients, coworkers, and providers
- Room patients and take vitals
- Obtain a comprehensive medical history
- Document care of patient via electronic medical record
- Administer vaccines, injections, and medications
- Perform phlebotomy, point of care testing and medication reconciliation under the supervision of RN/Provider
- Gather requirements from internal and external customers and provide information via phone, electronic messaging and in person
- Initiate and follow through on prior authorizations, referrals, and process sample medications, prescriptions, and refills as directed.
