Requirements
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred in the field of social work, clinical psychology, or related field.
- Experience working with children and families in ethnically diverse low-income communities required.
- Must have CPR and First Aid Certification or required to obtain within the first year.
- Physical exam and background checks are required for this position.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation.
Responsibilities
- Supports fidelity of implementation of Pyramid Model in all classrooms and centers.
- Collaborates with the Education team to develop appropriate behavioral strategies to support children with challenging behaviors in the classroom.
- Conducts case consultations regarding possible child MH or behavioral concerns with staff and families.
- Conducts classroom and center-based child observations to assess interpersonal interactions and determine if additional MH support/resources are needed to meet child’s needs.
- Discusses observations regarding a child’s behavior with families and potential services that could be beneficial to child’s development, in coordination with the program’s Early Learning Inclusion Specialist and Mental Health Specialist.
- Prepares observation and assessment reports and assists with referrals to appropriate resources including MH organizations in the community.
- Works with families to support the needs of family and child to align educational strategies to the home environment.
- Provides staff and families education regarding mental health and emotional wellness, and supports them in needed mental health interventions, including the use of home learning activities/PEER Cards.
- Works with the Head Start program team to coordinate parent workshops to promote active mental health awareness and family engagement in meeting the behavioral health needs of children and families.
- Participates in assigned meetings, events and training as required.
