Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of Neurodiagnostic performance and recognition of clinically significant findings
  • Ability to maintain patient safety during testing
  • Basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition
  • Knowledge of relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPAA practices
  • Ability to perform patient assessment related to care
  • Understanding of drug and physiologic status effects on activity monitored
  • Effective communication with patients and healthcare staff
  • Ability to maintain correct electrode connections
  • Basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and elimination
  • Understanding of digital equipment and electrical safety within the Neurophysiology unit
  • Knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and equipment settings

Responsibilities

  • Perform Neurodiagnostic procedures according to facility policy and procedures
  • Train under direct technical supervision for procedures not yet mastered
  • Maintain patient safety through communication with patient care support staff during testing
  • Continue to learn and apply EEG waveform recognition and relevant medical terminology
  • Perform patient assessment related to care such as electrode fixation product allergies and cognitive function
  • Communicate the purpose of diagnostic testing to patients and answer questions
  • Identify and perform basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification
  • Contact supervisory staff for problems within the Neurophysiology unit
  • Stock supply and prepare patient rooms for Neurodiagnostic procedures
