News Legal Research Associate

Bachelor’s degree in Law, Legal Studies, Journalism, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience
2+ years of experience in legal research, preferably in a newsroom, law firm, or corporate legal department
Strong understanding of legal terminology and principles
Proficiency in using legal research tools and databases, such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, or Bloomberg Law
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into accessible language
Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced news environment
High attention to detail and accuracy

Work with our VP & Legal Editor and conduct in-depth legal research on legal related stories covered across all of the network platforms
Analyze and interpret briefs, court rulings, and other legal documents to provide context and insights for news reporting
Collaborate with reporters and beat producers covering the Justice Department, Supreme Court, and other related departments and/or agencies to ensure accurate and comprehensive coverage of legal issues in the news.
Monitor ongoing legal cases and legislative developments that may impact news coverage.
Stay informed in fact-checking legal information in news stories to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Work closely with all attorneys in our Research (Brainroom) Department and other team members to support department projects and initiatives
Maintain organized records of research materials and findings
