Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (e.g. GED) for Radiation Protection Technician I
- Two year degree (Associate of Science) in radiation protection, or nuclear navy training, or equivalent education or training programs for Radiation Protection Technician II
- A minimum of three years of experience in lieu of a degree for Radiation Protection Technician II
- Two years of experience in a radiation protection, chemistry or computer science career
Responsibilities
- Perform surveys of rooms and plant areas to document and identify changing radiological conditions
- Perform radiological job coverage of maintenance and operations activities to ensure regulatory and procedural requirements are met
- Brief Radiation workers on radiological hazards of the work area
- Calculate air sample results and evaluate radiological conditions against procedures, to ensure expected conditions have not been exceeded
- Participate in Emergency planning drills, including response to contaminated injured workers, fission barrier degradation scenarios, and releases of radiological hazards to the environment
- Participate in the stations corrective action program, to identify and correct conditions in the plant
- Implement regulatory required programs, such as radioactive material/waste shipping, instrumentation calibrations and source checks, and dosimetry issuance
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree from a college accredited by the Institute of Nuclear Power Operators (INPO)
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics or a related field
- Navy ELT
- Certified by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technicians
- Meets ANSI 3.1 requirements for a Power Reactor Radiation Protection Technician
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of customers in all levels of an organization
- Demonstrated effective analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to deliver superior results within allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work
- Demonstrated the ability to work as part of a team, be a self-starter, exercise flexibility, and take personal responsibility for assigned accountabilities
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing processes, regulations, responsibilities, and work environments
