Requirements

  • 5 years of progressive leadership experience, including demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Supervisory experience, including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage performance, including conflict resolution and cultivating a healthy workplace that is equitable and inclusive.
  • A self-starter, with the ability to work independently and effectively without regular direct supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a commitment to building and leveraging staff and partnerships at the local, regional, and national levels to advance common conservation goals.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; must be able to make decisions, delegate responsibilities, and supervise and mentor staff.
  • Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Extensive experience managing budgets and government grants, completing reports, contracts, and other projects.
  • Proven success in providing support and direction to board members and management.
  • A flexible approach to work, with the willingness to travel regularly and work occasional weekends and evenings when necessary.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel, and an ability to quickly learn new software programs for accounting and contracting.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a resource for staff, assisting with the resolution of internal issues while fostering a collaborative culture based on trust, learning, and a shared commitment to the mission.
  • Manage and coordinate the Connecticut In-Lieu Fee Program, serving as the main point of contact for the program with environmental, legal, and accounting contractors and the US Army Corps of Engineers, and coordinating the Program Advisory Committee and Interagency Review Team.
  • Support Audubon Connecticut & New York Advisory Board meetings, including researching, securing, and contracting with venues, caterers, etc., and assisting board members with travel arrangements for three board dinners and meetings per year, including an every-other-year board retreat.
  • Assist the ED with coordination of internal board meeting preparation, including preparation of the board packet of information.
  • Support internal ACTNY gatherings, including every-other-year staff retreats, workdays, Birdathons, all-staff meetings, etc.
  • Assist Center and Sanctuary Directors and Managers across the two states with contractors and processes necessary to ensure that properties are managed to achieve conservation and community-building goals and have the legal and other support from the NAS team they require.
  • Manage the ACTNY Administrative Team, including supervising the Office Manager (NY) and Finance Assistant (CT), collaboratively developing and implementing efficient internal systems and processes for contracting, invoicing, etc. in support of ACTNY Centers, conservation programs, etc.
  • Assist ACTNY program staff with grant-related administrative needs, including sub-contracts and invoices; take the lead on short-term special projects as needed.
  • Act as a thought partner and sounding board to the Executive Director (ED) and other staff, providing guidance about how to sustain and grow our conservation impact by identifying resource and capacity needs and evaluating trade-off decisions.
  • Collaborate with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a community-centered organization is strongly preferred.
