Requirements

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience
  • Must have 5+ years of progressive payroll experience in payroll management, including US and Canada payroll within a complex, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end payroll processing for U.S. and Canada entities, overseeing full-cycle payroll preparation, processing, compliance, and reporting, as well as all quarter and year end reporting responsibilities.
  • Monitor and respond proactively and timely to internal employee payroll inquiries
  • Collaborate with HR, Legal, Finance, and other cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on compensation, benefits, and payroll tax compliance strategies.
  • Manage internal and external audit processes, ensuring adherence to SOX compliance and reporting standards, and provide support for quarterly and year-end audits.
  • Continuously monitor and interpret federal, state, provincial, and local tax withholding laws in both the U.S. and Canada, proactively advising on changes to ensure ongoing compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Own the withholding tax compliance and risk mitigation for U.S. and Canada payroll, overseeing multi-entity tax compliance at federal, state, provincial, and local levels. This includes proactively managing compliance risks, partnering with Legal and Finance on regulatory audits, and developing scalable strategies that safeguard Moderna’s payroll integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must have extensive knowledge of payroll practices, including tax laws and regulatory requirements in the United States and Canada.
  • BS/BA or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Advanced experience with Workday Payroll; proficiency in Workday HCM is a plus.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and/or Workday Payroll certification in U.S./Canada highly preferred.
  • Multi-state/entity payroll operations experience required, with expertise in handling US and Canadian tax jurisdictions.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or ability to analyze large quantities of data.
  • Experience with processing of equity transactions strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and establish best practices with payroll operations.
  • Experience supporting international assignments and global mobility programs is preferred.
