Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  • Current Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT), required
  • At least two (2) years of work experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in a hospital, retail or specialty pharmacy setting, required

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties as a pharmacy technician in a community pharmacy or specialty pharmacy department
  • Participates in improvement initiatives and implementation of new processes and procedures
  • Coordinates orientation and training of new associates
  • Participates in problem solving to address issues relating to patient safety, care and service
  • Supports and promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team and interdepartmentally to facilitate the departments ability to meet its goals and objectives
  • Collaborates with department leadership team to coordinate care with other departments and promote the highest level of patient care and satisfaction
  • Participates in leading quality and performance improvement initiatives
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety environmental and infection control standards
  • Assists with all phases of pharmacy services
  • Works with patients, providers and insurance companies to obtain prior authorizations
  • Answers phones and notes from physicians in a timely manner
  • Accurately reads interprets and enters prescriptions in a timely manner
  • Routes questionable prescriptions to the pharmacist for completion
  • Makes outbound calls / faxing physicians for prescription clarification, substitutions and formulary changes as needed
  • Prepares medication orders according to established policies, procedures and protocols
  • Assists Pharmacist by gathering clinical information on patients
  • Packages and labels medications accurately and appropriately to minimize waste
  • Verifies and monitors controlled substance inventories as required by daily shift assignments
  • Completes charges from previous day’s orders and assures that wastage is charged appropriately and eliminated
  • Completes documentation according to departmental standards
  • Maintains cleanliness of all pharmacy working areas, including hazardous waste removal as necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technician training, preferred
