Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in related field.
  • Four years of experience in behavioral social science, data science/statistics, and/or a similar, research-focused field.
  • Demonstrated experience with research design, data collection, and data analysis including, but not limited to, data mining, descriptive statistics, and data visualization.
  • The ability to learn new approaches and techniques as the need arises.
  • Teaching or TA experience at the college level.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with technology practices including, but not limited to, online courses and learning management systems.
  • Interest in working on processes, systems, and tools to positively impact student behavior.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Manage current Student Success support efforts for LAITS online courses.
  • Manage LAITS support of UT Student Success tool in LAITS-produced courses.
  • Consult with instructors about the tool.
  • Develop support plans with instructors.
  • Coordinate with graduate student employee(s) where appropriate/needed to execute support plans, or provide support directly.
  • Product management of UT Student Success tool (a reporting and messaging tool for reminding students about upcoming assignments and reaching out to students who may be falling behind).
  • Consult with LAITS instructors about Student Success best practices in online courses (synchronous and asynchronous) and continue to develop those best practices.
  • Research, develop, and execute new Student Success initiatives focused on methods, approaches, and tools that may help prevent students from falling behind in online courses.
  • Conduct analysis of survey data in combination with student records and learning management system (LMS) or other internal log file data to answer questions about student behavior, interactions with learning technology, and the impact of course-level characteristics.
  • Implement text messaging reminders to students and evaluation (via quantitative research) of these efforts.
  • Researcher has independence to plan and develop other relevant data-driven initiatives of interest in consultation with supervisor.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree, College of Liberal Arts, University of Texas at Austin.
  • Imminent or recent completion of PhD, College of Liberal Arts, University of Texas at Austin.
  • Experience with online teaching and learning.
  • Experience with the Canvas platform.
  • Demonstrated experience in seeking opportunities to improve processes and optimize work functions.
  • Professional experience in a university setting.
