Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in emergency management, mitigation planning, or a related field, with a focus on wildfire risk and climate change.
- Strong knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, mitigation strategies, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for risk assessment and planning.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate overall company strategy for Climate and Wildfire Mitigation
- Develop, implement, and maintain mitigation plans with a focus on wildfire risk and climate change.
- Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential hazards and their impacts on Avangrid’s infrastructure and services.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and industry partners, to enhance mitigation efforts.
- Lead the development of policies, procedures, and best practices for wildfire risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
- Draft and maintain emergency response plans for climate and wildfire related risks.
- Serve as a subject matter expert supporting the Company’s emergency response organization during actual wildfire events.
- Develop stakeholder engagement strategies pre-emergency and during emergencies.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation strategies and make recommendations for improvements.
- Lead and project management multiple workstreams and initiatives across the company, helping to execute mitigation planning activities.
- Provide expert guidance and support to other departments on mitigation-related issues.
- Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and regulations related to wildfire risk and climate change.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and training sessions on mitigation topics.
- Routine interaction with senior company executives
- Company subject matter expert and spokesperson with regulator, industry partners and stakeholders
- Travel, as needed, to company locations and for business meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Utility experience in California or States utilities directly working on Climate and Wildfire mitigation.
- Certification in emergency management or related fields (e.g., CEM, PMP) is a plus.
- Experience with GIS and other mapping tools.
- Familiarity with climate modeling, meteorological forecasting and/or data analytic tools.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and public communication.
