Requirements
- 8+ years of experience with experience working in a Congressional office, on Congressional committee staff, or in the executive branch preferred.
- Strong understanding of statutory and regulatory policy issues related to AI and data privacy (e.g., NIST RMF, OECD Privacy Principles, GDPR, CCPA and CPRA, Privacy Shield, and recent federal and state legislative and regulatory proposals).
Responsibilities
- Driving policy advocacy and thought-leadership campaigns focused on AI and assisting with privacy (and other issues as relevant) and building Workday’s profile by personally engaging regulators and policymakers and their staff through direct advocacy, events, and position papers.
- Leading development and execution of strategies for direct engagement with U.S. policymakers in both Congress and the administrative agencies; including identifying key targets, building coalitions and partnerships with industry peers and third parties where necessary, coordinating meetings, and building durable, longstanding relationships as a trusted advisor. At the state level, this involves direct coordination and partnership with state government affairs colleagues.
- Partnering with peers and internal stakeholders to develop and drive U.S. policy strategy focused on AI and assisting with privacy (and other issues as relevant), including developing strategic policy positioning, identifying and influencing relevant initiatives, providing feedback on proposed legislative initiatives, composing and submitting responses to proposed regulations and rule makings, and reinforcing Workday’s reputation as a constructive participant in policy-making processes with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders.
- Identifying and analyzing legislative and regulatory policy proposals focused on AI and assisting with privacy (and other issues as relevant) that could impact Workday’s business, including determining when and how we engage and allocating necessary resources to advance our business objectives.
- Actively participating in trade associations, including shaping their positioning, influencing key initiatives, and leveraging their assistance to drive campaigns focused on AI and assisting with privacy (and other issues as relevant).
- Disseminating information to ensure colleagues are aware of and up to date on the latest policy and regulatory developments that impact our business focused on AI and assisting with privacy (and other issues as relevant).
- Assisting in managing consultants, including ensuring access to timely information, engagement amplification, and the strategic application of resources for our advocacy efforts.
- Interacting with the business and driving regulatory changes to open new markets, including providing examples of how proposed regulations would impact the business as well as information and data to policymakers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience and record of impact in policy development and engaging and influencing U.S. regulators, legislators, and administration officials.
- Ability to self-motivate, prioritize, collaborate, and complete sensitive projects in a demanding, entrepreneurial environment in a timely manner.
- Experience balancing policy analysis with business goals to develop win-win solutions.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, from 140 character tweets to one-page policy summaries to in-depth policy analyses. Qualified candidates will be able to articulate complex technical and policy concepts, particularly those related to AI and privacy, in clear, compelling, non-technical language.
- Familiarity and comfort with technology, with a focus on cloud computing, SaaS, and enterprise software.
- Detail-orientation and ability to balance competing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
- Excellent judgment, positive outlook, constructive approach, and sense of humor.
