Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university; or a minimum of two years related brewing industry experience and/or training in a food laboratory; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Capable of working rotating shifts.
  • Advanced attention to detail and passion for accuracy.
  • Competent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with basic computer programs (Microsoft Office, Smartsheets, etc.).
  • Able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment which at times requires multitasking.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, as well as with a team.
  • Committed to working safely in challenging conditions which may include wet, hot, cold, and loud environments.
  • Adept at accurately interpreting and acting upon instructions given in many forms.
  • Energetic and eager to learn and take initiative in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, clean, calibrate and safely operate laboratory instruments including but not limited to microscope, centrifuge, agitator, spectrophotometer, chemical balance/scales, incubators, CO2/DO meter, pH meter, turbidimeter, seam analysis tools, Alcolyzer, gas chromatograph, autoclave, and PCR thermocycler.
  • Sampling in all areas of production from raw material to final product for microbiological, physchem or sensory testing.
  • Preparation of media and reagents for analyses as needed.
  • Sample preparation of both raw material and in-process checkpoints including wort, fermentations, bright beer, can, bottle and keg for parameters specified for each.
  • Accurately measure and record results in standardized forms; escalate non-conforming results to supervisor; troubleshoot and discuss deviations from specifications.
  • Ensure data analysis and results are performed and reported in a timely manner in keeping with the demand of round the clock production.
  • Uphold and maintain Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Inspect, assist in, and audit the cleanliness of the production environment regularly.
  • Maintain 5S standards and master sanitation schedules in the laboratory and all other quality-owned areas.
  • Summarize data and present in the form of graphs, charts, or other visualization as required.
  • Assist in sensory sample preparation, panel coordination, data analysis, benchtop trialing and other sensory testing.
  • Train and conduct audits to support understanding with operators on quality testing.
  • Coordinate and participate in quality improvement projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passionate about craft beer and brewing, plus related training, and knowledge, preferred.
