Requirements
- Extensive experience as a Quality Inspector or CMM Operator, with industry and commodity-specific expertise.
- Proficiency in dimensional inspection of precision tolerance parts.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with all inspection tools.
- Ability to understand and interpret complex GD&T requirements and validate complex assemblies.
- Experience with multiple primary and secondary part numbers (e.g., brackets, clips, doublers, splices, brackets, drip shields, etc.).
- To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
Responsibilities
- Conduct visual, physical, and dimensional inspections (both in-process and final) of parts, per project specifications and requirements.
- Perform incoming inspections from external providers of products and services (e.g., nickel plating).
- Conduct in-process and final inspections of critical features, including witness inspections (e.g., CMM program run).
- Compile final inspection sign-off sheets and inspection packages.
- Verify that inspection equipment is capable of detecting defects and ensure inspection methodology aligns with drawing intent.
- Review and validate the justification for parts not inspected at final inspection.
- Audit and validate the execution of inspection plans as applicable.
- Document non-conformances using approved methods and submit non-conformance reports for customer disposition.
- Verify hardware cleanliness and absence of internal or external foreign object debris.
- Verify fasteners are properly installed; assure torque stripe is continuous and of correct color.
- Assure products are free of gaps, mismatches, fairing, and of acceptable contour and waviness.
- Ensure products are of good workmanship and meet specified standards (e.g., oil canning, riding conditions, loose fasteners, drill starts, scratches, dings, burrs, fastener edge distance).
- Review and validate First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation, including completeness, traceability, and compliance.
- Ensure the protection and preservation of inspected products for subsequent processing and shipment.
- Verify applicable shipping documentation for legibility and completeness, including part number, serial number, configuration change letter, and shipping destination.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified or previously certified in GD&T ASME Y-14.5.
- Diploma or GED from an accredited high school or technical school; college degree in engineering.
- 5 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, with at least 2 years as a Mechanical Inspector.
