Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or material science or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • MS with 3+ years or BS with 5+ years
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply statistical methods to design experiments and evaluate results.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Organizational skills and ability to plan work.
  • Initiative and accountability (ownership); ability to focus on task at hand; detail oriented.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in timelines, priorities, and other unexpected circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Work front lines at the bench preparing new liquid phase and solid phase reagents.
  • Designing and performing various experiments at the interfaces of organic chemistry, biochemistry, and material science.
  • Work with small organic molecules, peptides, and various proteins.
  • Prepare, purify, and analytically characterize a variety of conjugates (biological and surface based).
  • Use design of experiments (DOE) methodology to guide design of statistically rigorous experiments.
  • Produce and/or test reagents and final products as well as perform other production-related activities.
  • Maintain detailed records of experimental work, prepare presentations, and discuss results in group and interdepartmental meetings.
  • Participate in different stages of the reagent design and development process, from the conceptual design of reagents through development and transfer of the reagents into a manufacturing environment.
  • Develop and maintain deep knowledge of IDEXX products and procedures, and learnings in the field, industry, and regulatory environments.
  • Participate in conferences, webinars, and seminars to continue to develop scientific knowledge base.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Laboratory bench experience preparing bioconjugates, modified polymeric surfaces, and immunoassay experience are highly desirable.
