Requirements
- Proven experience in design of optical instrumentation.
- Good knowledge of laser technology and hands-on experience in working with ultrafast laser systems, and laser processing system construction and maintenance.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with the ability to motivate and own the project development.
- Advanced degree (Ph.D.) in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Develop optical instrumentation such as laser processing systems, optical imaging systems, and laser spectroscopy systems designed to study and characterize the specific properties of various gemstones.
- Perform research and design experiments to implement new characterization methods and techniques, including building and testing instrument prototypes to validate concepts.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and engineering team to design and finalize instruments for internal and industrial applications.
- Own and oversee the overall project development, carrying the development through the gated phases, ensuring alignment with project targets and timelines.
- Conduct fundamental and applied research related to gemstones and gemology, contributing to scientific advancements in the field.
- File patent applications to protect innovative technologies and publish research findings in academic journals.
- Provide technical support for instruments, including debugging, implementing new functions, and assisting researchers with instrument-related needs.
- Explore, validate, and assess new measurement techniques and instruments for gemstone analysis, evaluating their feasibility and potential value to the company.
- Communicate effectively, collaborate with colleagues and management, and maintain professionalism.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid knowledge of the optical instrumentation market and available technologies are desired.
- Familiarity with spectroscopy (UV-VIS, FTIR, Raman/PL, other) and gemstone optical characterization is a plus.
- Proven experience in adaptive optical elements such as spatial light modulator and deformable mirror, galvanometer scanner, and knowledge of the time resolved optical methods is desired.
- Experience in mathematical tools such as MATLAB, Mathematica, or similar, or programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar is desired.
