Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of related experience.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
- Ability to exert heavy force.
- Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
Responsibilities
- Facilitates plant propagation, nursery stock, and horticultural research trials.
- Collects samples and measurement data from experiments. Implements and maintains data collection and summarization for field and greenhouse trials.
- Monitors plant growth, soil conditions, irrigation schedules, and pest management strategies.
- Collects and compiles data, computes quantities, and extends projections.
- Assembles and operates horticultural research equipment.
- Assists senior staff members in conducting major field and greenhouse experiments and consults in developing horticultural research protocols.
- Assists student workers and supports undergraduate and graduate research students in their assigned projects.
- Participates in college wide events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS in Horticulture, Agriculture, Biology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of related experience in horticulture, plant science, or greenhouse/nursery operations.
- Strong knowledge of plant taxonomy, nomenclature, plant care, propagation techniques, and horticultural research methods.
- Ability to operate and maintain horticultural equipment.
- Readiness to obtain a Texas pesticide applicator license if required.
